Car Rental Deposits in Agadir: What Is Normal and How to Get Yours Back

Almost every car rental in Morocco takes a security deposit at hand-over. That is normal and protects both sides. Problems only start when the amount is announced at the counter, or when the refund drags on. This guide explains what is usual in Agadir and how to get your deposit back in full.

What the deposit is for

It covers what the insurance does not: the excess on a damage claim, traffic fines received during your rental, missing fuel, and cleaning if the car comes back exceptionally dirty. If the car returns as it left, you get the whole amount back.

Typical amounts in Agadir

For small cars such as a Dacia Sandero or Logan the deposit is usually a few thousand dirham; SUVs and automatics carry more. • Photograph the car at hand-over from every side, including wheels and interior, and have existing scratches noted on the check-out form.
• Refuel to the agreed level before returning.
• Return at the agreed time and be present for the inspection.
• Ask for confirmation that the pre-authorisation has been released; with cash you get it back on the spot.

What to watch for in no-deposit offers

"No deposit" sounds good but is often paid for through an expensive extra insurance or a higher daily price, and sometimes handled differently at the counter anyway. Before booking, ask in writing: how much is the deposit, when is it returned, and what can be deducted? A rental company that answers those three questions clearly in advance is usually the better choice.
