The Best Road Trips from Agadir (With a Rental Car)

Published July 27, 2026 6 min read

Agadir is the perfect base for exploring southern Morocco. With a rental car you can be surfing at breakfast and hiking a palm-lined gorge by lunch. Here are five drives worth building your trip around.

1. Taghazout — 20 km, 30 minutes

The famous surf and yoga village just north of Agadir. An easy coastal drive on the N1, with beach cafés, Anchor Point for surfers, and Tamraght along the way. The best short trip if you only have a morning.

2. Paradise Valley — 60 km, 1 hour

A palm-filled gorge in the foothills of the High Atlas with natural rock pools you can swim in. The road climbs inland from Aourir; a normal car handles it fine outside flood season. Go early to beat the crowds.

3. Souss-Massa National Park — 40 km, 45 minutes

South of Agadir along the coast, this park protects the estuary of the Souss river and is one of the last homes of the bald ibis. Quiet beaches, birdwatching and dunes — a calm contrast to the resort strip.

4. Essaouira — 175 km, 2.5 hours

The breezy blue-and-white port city up the coast, famous for its medina, ramparts and grilled fish. The drive on the N1 passes argan groves where you may spot goats in the trees. Doable as a long day trip or an overnight.

5. Marrakech — 250 km, 3 hours

The tolled A7 motorway links Agadir to Marrakech in about three hours. It is a smooth, fast road — keep small change for the toll gates. Break the drive at Chichaoua, and arrive in the red city by afternoon.
